Are people really THIS gullible when it comes to buying dogs?
By adminOk now anyone who’s ever gone looking for a puppy from a reputable breeder knows about Show vs Pet quality. Anyone learning about what to look for knows about this as well.
So here’s my question can someone PLEASE explain to me why a MUTT breeder would be as bold to have two separate price ranges for the SAME mutt?
Boredom led me to see if anyone was god forbid breeding Irish Wolfhounds and Poodles, odd combo yes but no odder than GSDs X Pug = the Shug. Found of course Irish Setters X Poodles. Anyways kept looking and came across the Irish Mastiff.
As many mastiff varieties there, this would seemed ALMOST legit. and then you get to http://oldstylekennels.net Irish Wolfhound crossed with the English mastiff to get a non shedding non drooling “largest” breed of mastiff.
Pricing – Prices for our Irish Mastiffs range from $750-1500USD
Occasionally we have pet quality Irish Mastiffs available for $400-600USD.
Now last time I checked ALL mutts are pet quality. But seriously who is stupid enough to fall for this “pet quality” nonsense? What conformation shows are these mixes winning?
Suggested Category: Society & Culture > Cultures & Groups > General – Cultures & Groups
It is rather tempting to wanting to know the difference. The only thing I could think of is if the pups get the shaggy wolfhound coat and not the short coats as seen in the gallery.
Non shed and non drooling..ha!

I see nothing worth spending that much money on here. They look like they will end up with Animal Control at some point and (hopefully!) find forever homes from there. I have a neighbor doing the very same thing, only it’s chihuahua’s and schnauzer’s he’s crossing. On the up side, he’s only asking $100 per pup but still, why pay money for a mix you can find in a shelter or rescue any day of the week?

If people are gullible enough for fall for the champion bloodlines thing then they will fall for anything. All someone has to say is the dog has champion bloodlines and they think they are getting God’s gift of dogs.
The champions could be 5 or more generations back!!!
I want a dog that is at least has a champion sire or champion dam at the very least if not both parents champions. I also require that the parents be genetic tested before being bred.
People call my Pomeranians TEACUPS all the time and they are what the standard calls for. They are within the breed standard, not too small, not too large. Yet, they are “teacups”. Just shows how much people read the breed standard or research.

Seriously? Whow.
They are mutts. There are no competitions to win.
People are stupid.

Huh…I have to say I’m speechless. I’m tempted to write to them and ask them how they determine pet quality mutts. That really is totally bizarre, people are really incredibly stupid.
Add: OMG JULIE. ROFL. That was the funniest image in my head…thanks for ending my day on a happy note.
Add2: Do you think since they’re so good at the whole non drooling, non shedding thing, they could maybe make me a dog who doesn’t eat, poop, pee or need to be trained. Oh…and I also don’t want to brush it, so it can’t move much either.

Ive seen prices based on colors.. and even size/coat type of mutts… its all about greedy.
You’re right tho.. they are all “pet quality” so I dont see the difference? Unless their definition of “pet quality” is one that has an obvious deformity?

I really want to email them and ask how they determine pet quality versus “show” quality.

I would pay the extra for the show quality. I know I could win at Westminster since the competition would be nil. It is such a hassle to have a drooling dog in the show ring and the non-shedding is also a plus

Uh…
I’d email them and ask what the higher priced dogs were for..
super duper pet quality? comes WITH a learned name?

That is interesting, I am curious as to how they divide one mixed breed from another of the same mix. My best guess is that when different breeds are mixed one breed usually dominates the characteristics of the puppies. Maybe these people want either the Mastiff or the Irish Wolfhound to dominate the puppies and pet quality puppies are those which the other breed (the one they don’t want to dominate) dominates the puppies. It’s just a guess, but it’s the only thing I can think of.
It could also be that they breed some of their mixes with the other mixes and a pet quality dog may be one with a genetic problem, or some reason why they cannot be bred that may affect the puppies.

What conformation shows shows are these mixes winning? Well, the BYB’s have to stick together and hold shows in…..their backyards, of course. Then they divide them into groups, and have to choose which will be awarded the BIS mutt. Ya know, Labradoodle, Puggle, Morkie, Shipoo, etc., you get my point. BIS gets the *Purple* printed off the computer and a FREE glass of lemonade from the stand out front that they are usually selling for 50 cents to all the neighbor spectators. Forgot to mention, the judge would be the Boy Scout from down the street with the most badges.
Add: Thanks, Don’t Litter….I had to try really hard to pull that answer out of my azz!

I’m sorry, but all I can do is laugh.
That is the most ridiculous web page I’ve seen this month, I’m sure of it!
I particularly love how they have just magically “eliminated” the drooling problem by mixing the two breeds…and I don’t even know what to say about the reduced rate for “pet quality” dogs.
I also cracked up when I read the “expected height” and “expected weight” of adult dogs will be… HA!
What a complete joke.
Serves you right for poking around on the Internet – see the kind of stuff you can poison your mind with! ;o)

There are people that GULLIBLE that would believe anything they are told…..simply because they don’t care, are uneducated, have no knowledge of quality, only purchase because they are “cute”, and wouldn’t begin to take the time to learn and research anyway. As SAD as it is, we can’t seem to stop them. They bluntly “do not care”.
When one of my co-workers purchased a “doodle” puppy….I asked her if she realized the difference in a quality breed vs this designer breed (health/genetics, etc). She stated to me: “I don’t care, he’s cute”.
Enough said.
