Anyone with a Rottweiler?

Posted by: | Comments (4)

I just got a new Rottweiler puppy a few days ago that is 9 weeks old. The breeder that I bought it from has been breeding Rottweilers for 15+ years and said that he put a lot of time and effort into choosing dogs that had the best temperament. The puppy is doing great so far with other animals and is not showing any signs of aggression. I know that you are supposed to socialize the dog with as many people as you can while they are still young to avoid the dog from getting too aggressive with friends/family. I hardly have company over and probably won’t be able to introduce him to anyone for quite some time. Should I be worried? This is the first time owning a Rottweiler and would like to know if any of you that own one has had to worry about theirs. I’ve always wanted one, but most of my family and friends have bashed the breed because of it’s bad reputation. I really want to prove them wrong and show that I can raise a great Rottweiler. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks!
Thanks everyone for your input! Greatly appreciated!

Fila Lover question “I am sorry but if you cant give this type of breed the time for socializing, why did you get it?”

Answer “I’ve always wanted a Rottweiler, I have plenty of time devoted to train the dog. I just simply don’t have company over that much.”

Fila Lover “I amsurprized that this breeder even sold to knowing that this is your first time ever owning this breed”

Answer “I’m sorry but that doesn’t make any sense”

Fila Lover “some even ask income questions to make sure you can afford this large and demanding type of dog”

Answer “If someone asked me that I would be a little offended if I drove several hours just to look at their dog and willing to pay what they are asking for”

Can anyone help me with my rottweiler?

Posted by: | Comments (6)

I had a rott when I was about 15. He was the love of my life. The best dog I ever owned. I lost him to parvo at only 3 years old. I never wanted another rottweiler again!!. I rescued a bullmastiff about 5 years ago and he has been great. He is very calm. No accidents in the house, FANTASTIC with my daughter..Just a great dog all around. I decided I wanted a puppy for my birthday this year and my fiance talked me into a rottweiler puppy. He was soooooo cute. I met the parents, everything seemed great. It has been a very long time sinceI have owned a new puppy. Most of our dogs have been rescues. I assumed there would be a lot of work involved….

He is now 9 months old and It hurts me to say but I almost HATE this dog. I have had years of experience training dogs, showing dogs, even rehabbing fighting dogs. I don’t know what to do with him. He is 95 pounds and does not listen to anyone!!!! He is very sweet and a total attention whore..its very annoying but that part doesn’t really bother me. He cannot leave our mastiff alone. He just picks at him and bites him. He is always starting a fight. As you can imagine, it is a huge problem having 200+ pounds of dogs wrestling all through my house on a 24 hour basis. Because he refuses to leave the other dog alone, he has to spend way more time in his crate which I feel is not fair to him. I walk them both for at least an hour a day. The rottweiler is like a bull in a china shop even after a long walk. He tries to eat our cat, He alays knocks my daughter down. He will just poop in the house with no warning. He is AWFUL!!! I have never given up on a dog, but I feel like I am getting close with this one. Maybe its just the stress of a 2 year old and a puppy.. I dunno.. There are days when I love him to pieces and then most other days when I want to drop him off at the pound. Can anyone offer suggestions. I want to love him. I paid a fortune for him. I know he could be a good dog. I just don’t know what to do… Please help!!!

AKC German Rottweiler Name?

Posted by: | Comments (9)

Hello,

I have a Rottweiler puppy and I want to register him with the AKC, but I need help with coming up with a name. His name is Troy, but does anyone speak German that can help with getting his registration name? I know that the breeder’s name is typically used but the breeder didn’t have a kennel name. The father is “Weingraber” and the mother is “Mar-Ub”.

Help? =[

i have a rotti who will be 11 in jan. I have been told he’s living day to day but he doesn’t act like it. He NEVER grew out of his puppy stage and will still chase a ball, although only 3 or 4 times till you can see his legs hurt.

Why are 2 of my dogs puppies missing?

Posted by: | Comments (8)

My rottweiler had puppies for the first time 2 days ago. She only had 4 (which was kinda weird to begin with because we were thinking she would have more). But now 2 of those puppies are missing, leaving her with only 2 puppies! We have looked EVERYWHERE and can’t find them. We have 2 other dogs a male husky and a female mutt. The husky never bothers the rottie, but the other female always tries to get near the pups but we notice the rottweiler gets very protective and growls at her. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT ONE OF THE OTHER DOGS COULD HAVE ATE THE PUPPIES? OR COULD THE MOTHER ACTUALLY ATE THE PUPPIES HERSELF? I am now keeping the other dogs away, but is there anyone out there that can actually tell me what could have happened? I want to avoid it happening again. (I’m so sad cuz I was already in LOVE with the lil ones!)

Ste is three months now, learning to be housebroken, and knows a few basic things like “sit”. But her attention is all over the place. What age will she settle enough to pay attention and start training seriously? WITHOUT putting an end to the wonderful face licking and lovable puppy

This is a very large dog since the last time that I have seen him. He shows little or no respect for my commands. He has shown an excessive amount of aggression since he was a puppy and I think now he has gotten worse. He is very intimidating and it’s scary to think what he could do to me or my family. I don’t want to put him down or anything. This is what I kind of wanted, a security dog. But he needs to be friendly with me and my family.Any thoughts?
