Then you should get an adult if you expect it to hold it’s urine for 7 hours. Puppies can’t hold it that long. They really need to be taken out to potty every hour or two. Golden retrievers really don’t start getting big until 6 or 8months of age or so.

Get one from a shelter and save a life.

Edit: At 4 or 6 mos old it won’t be able to hold it for 7 hours. I am many moons older than that and can’t hold it for 7 hours.

I breed goldens, but I live in georgia. They love to be in your lap and give hugs. I f you want to do agility, they would be perfect. If you are wanting a puppy, then know that you will be in for hard work. If you want to know more, you can just contact me or go to Americankennelclub.com and they should help you out. I truely think you will love a golden.

Golden Retrievers are excellent pets. However, they can be difficult to potty train and are puppies for at least the first two years of their lives. That means they like to chew and do all the things that puppies do, which is cute when they are little. However, it can get expensive. I would buy a very large crate from petsmart or wallmart. Make sure that it is much bigger than the dog will need, as a full grown dog. Feed it in the morning. Take it out for a walk right after it eats. Within 15 minutes it should have the urge for a bowel movement. Once you have walked the dog and the dog has eliminated, put it in the kennel until you come home from school. Dogs generally learn to hold it very quickly, as they do not want a messy crate. I would go with the retriever. You are wise to wait until summer. Perhaps you could find an older puppy for sale or checkout your local pound or shelter. They generally have golden retrievers or golden retriever mixes. If you get one that is a little bit older, you will have the summer to work on his art of pottying. Plus, it will be easier for the puppy to hold it the more mature it is. Good luck.
