How can I potty train my Golden Retriever Puppy?
ByI love dogs and know a lot about them, but potty training them kind of can get messy if you know what I mean. Please can you give me some help on how to potty train my GR.
Extra tips would be appreciated!

The first thing to remember about house training a puppy is there ability to hold themselves is limited. A rule of thumb is they can hold “it” usually 1 hour for each month of age. 2 months old = 2 hours, 3 months old = 3 hours, etc. When your puppy wakes up (morning, nap, whatever) the pup has to go, right then! Take the pup out. When the pup eats or drinks, it has to go, take the pup out. After exercise (play), take the pup out. When the pup does it’s thing outside praise it. A lot. Tell the pup how good, how smart it is. You have to pay attention to the pups “looking for it’s spot” behavior. When you see that behavior indoors, whisk the pup out. If you catch the pup in the act, simply tell it “NO!” and whisk it outside. If you find a puddle or pile after the fact, clean it up with an enzyme cleaner (pet food store) get a newspaper and hit…. yourself in the head and say “I should have been paying more attention.” Daytime training they get pretty fast. Night time training is easier if you crate train the pup. Also remember the one hour/one month rule. You will have to get up through the night to take the pup out. Good luck

if you take him outside when he is ready to go to the bathroom he will get use to going outside for the future

I think there is no better way to train dogs than crate training. When you take them out of the crate to play etc..take them outside, and tell them to go potty (or whatever phrase you use). When they do make a huge happy display about it…lol and try to keep a schedule of potty breaks. It worked for me..and Golden Retrievers are so smart….if they are anything like my German Shepherd they will soon come to your bed and tell you they have to go pee…lol
I would also get them used to some kind of signal for you to know when they need to go out. I’ve used a bell handing on a cord on the door knob adn taught my dog to hit the bell with her paw when she needed to go out.
good luck

Well i hate reading, but one book i did read was about dogs.
It has said that Dogs are no good with potty Training.
When it needs to go the only place it should be done is out side..
So observe him and try to notice when he needs to go and open the door.
After a couple of try’s he should get an idea

Wow…..lol! I am turning 16 Wednesday and I just got a Golden Retriever puppy. He is 9 weeks old and a menace, hes chewing on everything. But he is very intelligent, when he has to go to the bathroom he whines to let me now and i take him outside and he goes. I’m not sure how he learned because he already did that when I got him.

I just got a golden retriever x yellow lab puppy yesterday, and this is what I do: I take him out at least every 2 hours so he can relieve himself, because puppies go to the bathroom A LOT! Every time hes done eating or drinking take him outside right away because usually 15 minutes later after they eat or drink they gotta go do their business. Also, when he wakes up from a nap take him outside right away, just in case.. My puppy always has to go to the washroom after a nap. Right in the morning take him out, and right before you and the dog go to bed take him out again. You MIGHT have to wake up at least once during the night to let him out, it depends though. I didn’t have to with my pup. Puppies cant hold their bladders for a very long time. Good Luck!!
