How long can I expect my Rottweiler to live?

By

i have a rotti who will be 11 in jan. I have been told he’s living day to day but he doesn’t act like it. He NEVER grew out of his puppy stage and will still chase a ball, although only 3 or 4 times till you can see his legs hurt.

first, it depends on how old it is now. Second, rottweilers probably live up to 14-16 if it in good sape. so if you want it to live a long time then keep it in good shape.

I HATE to say this but he is living on barrow time. You must have taken great care of him!!!! His leg probably has Athirst, you can give him baby aspirin for it. Just love him and keep playing with him. That’s what keeps him “young”.

I life span range, is just the average. My childhood dog was a rott ( well we had 4!) and she lived to be 16. If you’re dog is healthy, neutered, and has a good diet, they can live live longer than the average life span…

according the to the AKC rottweilers usually get to age 12.

Enjoy the time you have & consider yourself lucky! Rotts usually live 10 -12 years, so every good day is a bonus. Good luck!

I think the average life span of a dog is 12 or 13 years. For some reason, smaller dogs tend to live longer than bigger ones. Your Rotti sounds like he’s still got a bit of life left in him, so I wouldn’t worry too. I had a Shepherd/Rotti cross who only lived to be 8, and his decline was slow and painful.

The average life expectancy for a Rot is 12 years. But I have seen several live up to 16 years. It sounds like he is still in great shape, not showing much sign of slowing down or aging. Only mild signs of arthritis or hip dysplasia. I would say that his chances of living several more years are good, of course no one can guarantee this.
Is he neutered, is he overweight, what kind of food is he on, does he take any supplements, is he on any medication regularly? All of these things will be a determining factor in how long he lives. But like I said, it sounds like he is in great shape. He’s very lucky to have had an owner like you, sounds like you’ve taken great care of him and love him very much.

As long as he doesn’t have any medical problems ie: hip, heartworm. He should live until he is 15 even 20. That seems like a long time but it can happen. My pitbull can live until she is 12 but she can defy odds. Your Rott can too. Just keep an eye on him and make sure his health is in good condition and take him in once a year for a wellness check. He should do fine.
