There’s just a couple things about him, He dosn’t like to be held much, he squirms around alot, but I’m thinking that it’s just his age. He’s 4 months old. I heard that Bassets were a stubborn breed, but he was so adorabe, I just hade to get him.

Let him around the house and get to know all the places and such. Don’t start training him till after a week or two. Look at him straight in the eyes and pet him. He will earn your trust :]

Being adorable is not the best reason to get a basset. Your going to need patients. Lots and lots of patients. Bassets are VERY stubborn and difficult to train. They also drool A LOT more than other dogs and can flip it up to 10 feet! They shed and have a *houndy* odor that will stay in your couch, carpets, etc…..

HI
Here is some tips. Don’t hold him to much. Do not yell at him for punishment it won’t work. Start with the training now as he will take a little time to get it. Train him to go to his crate, and house train him now. You can go to our website for info on that. http://www.containapetneohio.com. be fair yet firm at all times.
Hope this helps

We have a basset hound female @ a year and a half old. She’s really sweet, doesn’t drool or smell. She has chewed up a lot of our electronics and ink pens and she has a problem with seperation anxiety. The vet says Bassets stay in a puppy stage for about 2 years and that some of our problems will get better. We love her, she’s cute and she’s staying. Good Luck!

Bassets are like any other breed. You cannot judge them all because they happen to be the same breed. Yes some are stubborn, some are not at all! Be patient with him. Hold him for short sessions, often. Offer him a treat while you are hold him so he can associate a treat with being held. Sounds like the breeder did not socialize him properly, take your time with him and give him time. Keep working with him. good luck
