Is it okay to bathe my golden retriever in beer? Apparently, beer makes the dog coat shine instantly ?

By

I feed it Innova the brand from natura?. But the problem is he cant keep out of the water and we have to bathe him every 3 days because he attracts flies. I know its damaging to the fur but what can we do? BTW, where can we find Solid Gold in malaysia?

What???? I’ve never heard that before. Dont let your dog drink any of it. Alcohol isnt good for them at all!!

So what in beer makes the hair shiny? The hops? The carbon dioxide? The alcohol?

My first thought is that the alcohol would dry out the skin and hair though.

It should be alright, but why not try baby shampoo or oatmeal based shampoo. I have a 9 month male golden and his coat was very dry last month. I’ve been giving him 2 salmon pills a day and I switched his food to Solid Gold (Barking over the moon and Wolfking) and his coat has gotten very soft, shiny and healthy. And don’t bathe him too much. Once a month is more than plenty.

If you want it to get a little “tipsy ” that is fine with me.

It won’t hurt him.You have to mix shampoo with the beer, though. Then rinse thoroughly, use a conditioner and rinse again. But to get dog’s coat really shiny, you have to feed it well. What do you feed him? Adding fish or fish oil,and an egg every other day will really help.

Sounds like a waste of beer to me! Its expensive too! I would just use Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo. You might also want to try using baby oil that you can just brush through his coat.

Good Luck!

NO — alcohol will just dry out his skin and coat more.

Can you get HyLite shampoo from your vet or have it sent from an online source? Groomers and trainers who handle show dogs recommended this to me, they use it on show dogs and it is wonderful – non-detergent, leaves coats shiny without stripping oil.

If you want him to smell like a Brewery by all means go ahead.
Personally I wouldn’t even attempt it on my Goldens. You need warm water and a good quality Dog Shampoo like Evening Primrose or Royal Jelly Shampoo for a Golden Retriever then a Conditioner to keep his coat healthy and shiny. Make sure all the residue is well rinsed off afterwards.

If he is in and out of water all the time, pay great attention to his ears to prevent him getting infections. They should be dried thoroughly every time he has been swimming.

It isn’t a good idea to bathe him quite so frequently. This will strip all the natural oils from his coat, leaving it dull and lifeless.
If you have a garden hose you could just spray him to get the dirt out of his coat each time then give him a good brush with a slicker brush when he is dry.
