The major financial problem with my golden retriever is her dog walking it is very expensive.?

By

It is difficult for me to give her the kind of walks she needs because I have bad knees. I do not know what is enough walking time for her.

How much is the dog walker charging you???

If you have to give up your dog because you can’t afford to have her walked, then you are pathetic. Either find a cheaper dog walker or maybe cut back on items for yourself.

You are making up a poor excuse to get rid of the dog. If you don’t want it anymore, don’t come on yahoo answers and try to get sympathy by whining about how much it costs you to have to dog walked. You just want someone on here to pat your hand an say “it’s ok”. Make your own damn decisions and stop looking for validation!

I don’t walk any of my four Dobermans at all — I do participate with them in activities — obedience, schutzhund, playing in the yard and/or house but I don’t take them for a walk because of my knees (that don’t exist) and because of the stray dogs in my neighborhood. If you can’t afford a dog walker then why not do something else to give you and your dog time together and her some exercise that isn’t damaging to your knees? Do you have a yard? Get one of those ball chuckers and teach her to retrieve it — if you don’t have a yard, if you have stairs, have her do it up and down the stairs — I did that while snowed in for the winter in Vermont for years… the dogs got great exercise and I could throw a ball great! :) Even when I had knees I didn’t take dogs for neighborhood walks and would have never trusted them with someone else to do it… I would be concerned that they would not care for them the way I want them cared for…

add: Oh, so you are just looking for an excuse to get rid of her — just do it — call breed rescue and hope they will take her — donate money to them regularly because of your other donation. If you just don’t want her any more then don’t come here for validation — just do it and live with your decision and vow to never get another living creature in your life… simple

add: And then there is little Amber who obviously doesn’t have bad knees — I hope you never do even though you deserve them for you rather asinine comments about them… I have worked long and hard as an ICU/ER nurse for decades – 12 – 16 hour shifts on my feet constantly so don’t be such a fool as to pretend you have a clue about someone else’s health issues… I also have worked with hundreds upon hundreds of post knee replacement patients and hope someday to get replacements as mine are shot — not an easy thing though and for some little know nothing fool like you to try to belittle anyone for their health problems just shows you for the guttersnip you obviously are…

add again: And then lil lil shows their ignorance… dogs do not become ‘aggressive and destructive’ due to lack of walking — goodness but the ignorant misinformation on YA! is palpable! hahaha I never walk my dogs and none of them, in over fifty years of owning, training and successfully trialing them have ever been ‘aggressive or destructive’ … they are laying at my feet now… all four ‘aggressive and destructive’ house dogs that never are taken for silly walks… that is just what people say to you because you likely don’t know how to properly interact and train a dog so you walk it and it makes you feel better about your lacking :) Gosh, give a guy a TV show and everyone believes every little nonsensical thing he says! hahaha 99%ers are abundant and P.T Barnum was soooo right! hahaha

having bad knees is a stupid excuse not to walk a dog. use it or lose it!
if you have bad knees the only thing the doctor is going to tell you to do is physical therapy. ( which it would probably be better for you in the long run if you walked your dog anyway)

and if its that bad get a wheel chair and stop complaining

geezuz mouth calm down.

the dog needs to be walked, i dont know how much time. i walk my dog 30 mins to 1 hr two or three times a day. if you dont walk the dog it is going to become aggressive and destructive. i know dogs are alot of responsibilty but if you cannot do this for the dog i would recommend you give the dog away (or geta hover round.. no, really)

I had 3 surgeries on my foot in a 9 month period. I have screws, pins, whatever else they put in there. I walk my Boxer at least four times a day, AND I do dog walking for other people. I charge $5.00 a walk for about 45 minutes. Get another dog walker. OR find her a good loving home that will take the time for her, she deserves that anyway. OR wrap them knees and start walking.

If your knees are too bad to walk, you probably would qualify to get a sit-down type scooter from your insurance company. There’s an OLD lady in my neighborhood that I see walking her dog on her scooter every day. Perhaps there would be someone in your family or even your neighborhood that would be willing to help you out…try calling your church, Salvation Army, and similar places that match up volunteers with people in need. I’m certain that as much as your Golden needs walks, there is a teenager longing to take your dog out for a walk.

I don’t know how much time is enough as we play with our dogs instead of walking them.

But I just wanted to say to those people that answered your question: Just WHERE IN THE WORLD DID YOU READ THAT SHE IS GETTING RID OF THE DOG? Once again you have taken a question and added more to it!!! I even checked her profile and didn’t see anything about getting rid of her dog. Please, PLEASE stop doing this to innocent people asking reasonable questions!

**Edit for Leigh–I am totally at fault I did not read HER questions on her profile. My apologizes.

The amount of exercise a dog needs depends on many factors – breed and age mostly. Most dogs need about an hour of exercise a day. If you can’t walk her, take her to the dog park and let her run and play there.
The person who said they do dog walking for $5 for 45 minutes is either from Mars or just has alot of time on their hands to kill. The average rate for a professional dog walker (who is insured, does this as a full time legit. business etc…) where I live is about $20 for a half hour.
