Poodles are great dogs, the smaller (toy and miniature) can be a little on the exciteable side. they are extremely intelligent, learn quickly, and are great personalities. They do need to be trimmed every 8-10 weeks, cost varies by state and dog, but typically plan around $60 per grooming for a toy or mini, around $75 for a standard (at least in Illinois).

All poodles, regardless of size, need physical AND mental stimulation. They require more than “a walk” to satisfy them. Training is a MUST, even if it’s just to train tricks. They are active and bred to think independently, so if YOU don’t give them a job, they will create their own job- which may not be what you want.

Grooming can be $40-$50 for toys/minis, and $60-$100 for a standard. If you keep the hair short, you can go 8 weeks, if you want longer hair, you will need to groom more often, like every 4-6 weeks.

Poodles go through a coat change between around 9months of age and 2 years of age. During this time, if your poodle’s coat is not kept pretty short, it will matt…quickly, and tightly.

A poodle also needs lots of training before you even get them, to help them handle the grooming process. Grooming is going to be an integral part of their life, and the earlier you start, the better they will be. Many groomers will charge extra if your dog has an attitude, and not compliant with grooming. You can nip that in the bud by starting with them early.

Poodles, like any breed, has a treasure trove of genetic pre-dispositions. Find a reputable breeder that is doing health testing- the main things you need to look for are hips, CERF the eyes, vWd, thyroid, and SA.

A well bred poodle from a reputable breeder is going to cost you $1,00-$1,500.

Living with a poodle is wonderful. I have had the breed most of my life.

Currently I have a cream minature and he requires about a 45 minute walk a day but does enjoy going longer.

They are very loyal, they will warn you of any danger. You will never have a better friend than a poodle. They are very intelligent and easy to train. And do well in obedience

Our poodle we have groomed every 12 to 14 weeks (his fur doesn’t grow too fast and we like him a little shaggy) but I do his grooming now (I don’t care for the local groomers where we live) and when he was going for grooming it was about 35 dollars a groom.

Our poodle cost $300 but thats after we talked the breeder down (no one wanted this pup) we didn’t realize what a byb was back then

But you need to go to a reputable breeder and it will cost you a bit more.

Here are pictures of my poodles: (1st is my current one who is a minature, the other two are toys)

Yes I agree with 529 on all that she has said. I have had poodles for 15 years. I had a toy poodle who lived to 14 years, now I have a minature poodle. The cost for wash and trim and a mini manicure is £25. They are clever playful, faithful, and very proud particularly when they leave the parlour and they are everything you want them to be.
Sadly this little lady I have now developed cataracts and I was unable to have them treated in time and she is now blind, nevertheless I would have to point out this to you if you came to my house, she is so independant. When this happened I thought about having her put to sleep, boy am I glad now that I did not. Get a POODLE
