Why are 2 of my dogs puppies missing?
ByMy rottweiler had puppies for the first time 2 days ago. She only had 4 (which was kinda weird to begin with because we were thinking she would have more). But now 2 of those puppies are missing, leaving her with only 2 puppies! We have looked EVERYWHERE and can’t find them. We have 2 other dogs a male husky and a female mutt. The husky never bothers the rottie, but the other female always tries to get near the pups but we notice the rottweiler gets very protective and growls at her. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT ONE OF THE OTHER DOGS COULD HAVE ATE THE PUPPIES? OR COULD THE MOTHER ACTUALLY ATE THE PUPPIES HERSELF? I am now keeping the other dogs away, but is there anyone out there that can actually tell me what could have happened? I want to avoid it happening again. (I’m so sad cuz I was already in LOVE with the lil ones!)

Yes, any of the other dogs or the mother herself could have eaten the pups. The dam and pups should always be kept safely away from other dogs at all times.
No other dog should be able to get at the pups.

Don’t panic. Try to get the rottwieller, and her two pups in a different room right now, your bedroom, bathroom, or laundary room is a good choice. Get them old blankets, dog bed, ect… for comfort. And food and water. Once this is done. Start out looking in tiny places, little pups can fit in small places. Then if you don’t find them, look for clues, if another dog ate them there would probley be blood somewhere. Good Luck.

Unfortunately this can happen when the mother is trying to protect her puppies from any predators. She would rather eat them than let another dog near them for fear of them being taken away from her.
You really ought to keep her in a separate room well away from the other dogs to allow her to bond with her babies. She needs to be somewhere where she can relax in the knowledge that her puppies are safe. Once her pups are completely weaned then you can have them all together again.

this is possible- most mother dogs will eat or kill their puppies if the puppy has a deformity or has a physical challenge. Did you find any evidence of this? I think that if this happened you might have some evidence left over. What I would do is closely monitor the other puppies and if you don’t have evidence, keep searching for the pups or listening for cries.
hope this helps and very sorry

Of course this IS what happened. Too bad you weren’t in love with them enough to know to keep ALL other dogs away from the Dam and her litter. As it has been said before……lots of BYBer’s kill dogs everyday….and that’s EXACTLY what YOU allowed to happen.

here is how you avoid having it happening again – YOU GET YOUR ANIMALS FIXED.
There is no way to know. Could have been EITHER of the other two dogs doesn’t matter what you think about the male could have been the female because she is STRESSED AND SCARED BECAUSE HER IDIOT OWNERS HAVE FAILED TO PROVIDE HER A SAFE PLACE TO WHELP AND KEEP HER PUPS.
No four pups is NOT WEIRD if you had bothered to go to the damn vet and litter size determined.
She and her pups need to be INSIDE the house well away from ANY other animals and from heavy foot traffic.

In a multi pet home when a litter is born the other pets need to be kept away from the Dam and pups
The other dogs can and will kill the pups
The Dam and pups should have been in a separate heat regulated room with you there all but 24 hours a day until the pups are at least 4 weeks old to ensure their safety and make sure that they are all feeding well.
Had you been with the Dam and pups the pups never would have gone missing.
This is what happens when people refuse to educate themselves on breeding.
The pups were born 2 days ago? Have you taken them and the Dam for a wellness exam at your vet? You should have at lest 12 hours after the last pup was born.
Call your vet and ask them for information about caring for the Dam and puppies, if not you risk losing the other 2 as well.

They probably did kill and eat them. You obviously don’t love your dogs enough to research breeding techniques. Your puppies are dead because you didn’t either separate your other dogs or you bred a female who passed on some birth defects. Mothers will eat there babies if they feel something is not right, it will give the mother lots of extra protien and nutrients that her body needs to be caring for the other pups. She might not be getting proper nutrition after having her pups that led her to eat them.
Get her spayed and this could have been avoided.
