Will a black lab/golden retriever mix be all black?

By

My female golden retriever is pregnant with a male full bred black lab’s puppies. He wasnt our dog but I know the person who owns him and I know hes a full blooded labrador. I know that when any color lab has puppies with another lab, the puppies can be all different colors, so I was just wondering if the female is a golden retriever can have the same type of litter (that being different colored pups) as a lab on lab litter?

well when i think about dominance i think that black is dominate…

you have a pretty good chance of most of them being black but you will probably get some gold some black…

you should not come out with any black and gold .. or gold and black not saying that it cannot happen but if they are pure bread then they should all be a solid color…

hope i helped somewhat!

It depends, they can be any colors- black, chocolate or yellow. They are mixed breed puppies, you never know what you are going to get.

Who knows….they could come out looking like anything but usually black is a dominate gene.

They could look like anything that is the problem with mutts and as you were not responsible enough to keep her from that one male she may also be pregnant from other males as well.

Well, a Golden Retriever’s base coat (…oddly enough..) is black. So, the mix in question would most likely have a Black coat! However, with a mix like that… you can’t determine the color easily. If I’m right, even breeding two black Labs can result in a yellow or chocolate depending on the parents genes/complete pedigree. Their general body structure is the same so the only real difference would be the ears, eyes, tail and coat length.. which would depend on who’s genes are dominant, the Lab’s or Golden’s. Go to AKC.org and check out both breeds separately and see if any features stand out when the pups are a few months old.

in rules of heredity there is always a possible outcome of having a non black offspring. If the black coat is the dominant trait then most will be black. but that does not mean there will be no golden coated offspring. There is always a possibility of golden coat.

but sometimes a trait from none of the parents appear. This is caused by the traits from the parents parents. Like if the black labs mother was brown and the father was black. Even if the lab is black The brown trait is still in the black labs DNA and this can maybe cause one of the offspring to be brown.

You never know, same as with people, mom is blonde and dad is brunette. Who knows what color hair you will get.
